Pressure Washer Safety

Each and every pressure washer have their own manual that informs the owner or user the proper way of using the washer as well other important safety guidelines and information involved when using the unit. One of the most common safety measures when using a pressure washer is to never point the spray of water to any person or animal as the immense pressure coming out of the nozzle is strong enough to cause injury. Aside from other people, you should also be careful with your fingers and never try to change spray nozzles while the spray is on.

Another important thing to remember is that when you store your pressure washer to make it a point that you keep it in the off or closed position to prevent accidental discharge of water as soon as you use it again. This will also prevent the hose or wand of your pressure washer from kicking back as soon as you turn it back on. The truth is almost every pressure washer tends to have a bit of a kick back as soon pressure begins building up. This makes it important to get used to your unit. When spraying, make sure to grip the gun with both hands so that you have enough control when the wand jumps as you turn on the spray. This is one of the reasons why manufacturers discourage the use of pressure washers when the operator is perched on stepladders, flimsy scaffolds, or any other unstable platform.

When operating a pressure washer, it is always important to be aware of your surroundings. For example, if you are operating an electric pressure washer, make sure to never use it or spray on electrical appliances, electronics equipments, and outlets. Also, make sure to never operate the unit in the rain. However, if you are using a gas pressure washer, make sure to avoid smoking or open flames as these might ignite the fumes that might be coming from the gasoline. You also need to be careful when refilling your tank with gasoline. Make sure not to overfill your tank as this can lead to spills which could potentially catch fire. After refueling, make sure to secure the gas cap tightly to prevent any gas or fumes from leaking out.

When you have a pressure washer, it is important to always practice safety, whether you are using it for cleaning, refueling, or just storing it for use on another day. Pressure washers, when used safely and correctly, could result into fun cleaning tasks that you will be looking forward to.
