Portable Pressure Washers

When it comes to cleaning equipment, pressure washers are considered to be the best invention ever made.  They are cleaning tools that are not just very efficient, but they also take less time in accomplishing the cleaning task at hand.  Having it will allow you to clean almost any solid or hard surface with hardly any trouble.

These days, you will find a plethora of pressure washers with different pressure levels and powered by either a gas engine or an electric motor.  There are models that use cold water, hot or cold water, and steam.  Cold water pressure washer units are the most basic of pressure washer models.  Nevertheless, they are still able to do what they do best – clean dirt and stain on surfaces.  Hot water pressure washers on the other are more powerful than cold water units as the added heat in the water helps to dissolve dirt and stain.  They are ideal for cleaning oil and greased-stained surfaces as the heated water melts and lifts them up from the surface they are adhered to.  The best thing about hot water pressure washer units is that you can also opt to use cold water.  Steam pressure washers are the most powerful of the three but also the most expensive.  Steam units are mostly used for industrial cleaning applications.

Among the many models of pressure washers available today, you will be able to spot units in small form factor that makes them very portable.  Portable pressure washers come in either gas or electric powertrain.  Since there are also a variety of portable units to choose from, getting the right one for your cleaning needs may become somewhat of a challenge.  This makes it necessary to isolate the factors you would want in a unit so you will be able to weight your options properly.

The first thing you would want to consider would be how much power you need.  Since you are aiming for a portable unit, you cannot necessarily ask for a very powerful unit similar to those generated by big and bulky machines.  Nevertheless, potable pressure washers still range from light duty to heavy duty models.  If you plan on using your unit for light and simple cleaning tasks only, such as washing cars, deck, and patio, then a light duty unit will suit you just fine.  Light duty models are able to generate between 1300 PSI to 2000 PSI which is sufficient enough for most residential cleaning tasks.  However, if you plan on using the unit for heavier cleaning tasks and for prolonged periods, it is essential that you opt for a heavy duty portable pressure washer unit.

The second thing you would want to consider would be whether you need a hot water or cold water pressure washer unit.  In essence, a regular cold water unit is more affordable as compared to a hot water unit, thereby making budget the third factor to consider.  For most household cleaning tasks, the regular cold water model would be sufficient enough to accomplish almost every cleaning task you dish at it.  It can meet any cleaning household cleaning challenge without breaking a sweat.  However, if you intend on using a pressure washer unit for cleaning grease or oil spills, then you may require the added power that a hot water pressure washer unit offers.  This is because using a regular cold water unit to clean oil or grease will hardly have any effect as the oil or grease will only harden or solidify because of the low temperature.  Using hot water on the other hand will help to dissolve the oil or grease, making it easier for the pressurized water to lift and remove it from the surface it is adhered to.  In short, cold water units are suitable for most residential cleaning tasks except for oil and grease-involved dirt and stain.  For that you will need a hot water unit to help dissolve and clean them.

The last factor you will need to consider will be between the two powertrains – gas or electric.  When it comes to true portability, electric pressure washers are not that popular as they are limited by the length of their power cord.  Gas pressure washers are considered the true portable units as they can be operated on remote locations without having to connect them to the power grid.  However, this does not necessarily mean you will go for the gas-type models immediately as there are certain things to consider between the two powertrains.  As mentioned, electric pressure washers are limited by the length of their power cords in becoming truly portable.  Then again, they have several advantages over gas-powered units such as: One, Electric pressure washers are much quieter to operate. Two, they require less maintenance as you do not need to frequently refill gas, or change oil and oil filters.  Three, they can be operated on indoor cleaning applications as they do not emit any fumes unlike gas pressure washers.  Operating a gas-powered pressure washer indoors is highly discouraged as the fumes it emits, carbon monoxide, can be fatal if breathed in for prolonged periods.  On the other hand, gas pressure washer units top electric units when it comes to power and true portability.

The truth is when it comes to pressure washing, mobility is very important.  Although you will find powerful yet stationary pressure washing equipment, there are many instances where you need to move around to get to the other side or on tight areas.  This makes the feature of mobility an added appeal, especially if the operator needs to frequently move from one section or part to the other.  In fact, portable pressure washing units are considered to be the very flexible and versatile as they can be used and adapt to different cleaning applications.  There are even steam models that offer temperatures of up to 330º F which is perfect for cleaning and sterilizing commercial kitchen areas and equipments as well as cleaning and sterilizing dirt and bacteria-prone areas such as toilets and restrooms.
